A toucan is undeniably a beautiful bird with their breathtaking colorful beak and striking contrasting feathers. They are gorgeous creatures. According to FactZoo.com, toucans are omnivorous but mainly eat fruit. Their bills are large and may serve to scare away enemies, but they are not intended as weapons, because they are too soft. They are well adapted for fruit-eating, however.

I’m sure that most of us are familiar with one of Kellogg’s most popular mascot: Froot Loops’ Toucan Sam. So, what do you think? How much does he resemble a toucan? Is he a good cartoon version of one?

There are too many cute things about this picture. This little hedgehog has an adorable nose, soft fur, small eyes, goofy paws and an explosion of tiny spikes. There is an overload of cuteness in this tiny package.
According to Learn Animals, the long-eared hedgehog is much smaller than other hedgehogs and it’s faster too. The long-eared hedgehog lives in Central Asia and the Caucasus Mountains and hibernates during the winter.

Indeed it is true. A mule has a horse mother and a donkey father. Goofy and cute, mules definitely belong here on ACAD. Unfortunately, mules are often sterile by nature, meaning that it is rare for a mule to have offspring of its own.
So, what do you think of this goofy little mule next to its mother? Isn’t it so sweet looking?

I have always found skunks to be deceptively cute. I say deceptively cute because of course the last thing you want to do is find yourself near a skunk in spite of how much you might feel inclined to pet one or give one a little bit of food. The black fur and large white stripe mean “Stay Away!” and that’s the rule of thumb as far as skunks are concerned. Luckily, here on ACAD, we can take advantage of skunks’ cuteness without needing to worry about the potential smell!
Here’s a picture of an adorable baby skunk:

Also, on the topic of Disney, (like our Cinderella post from the other day), I have always been a fan of Flower, the skunk from Bambi. Isn’t he sweet, adorable and an excellent friend?

I’ve always loved Cinderella. It was my favorite Disney movie growing up and still is. I love the story, the characters and also the beautiful songs. One of my favorite songs that I still regularly sing to myself is “Sing Sweet Nightingale”. Here’s the song: (Please note that the stepsisters are singing before Cinderella does).

We were curious to know what a nightingale looked like since we don’t have any around here where we live. So here’s a nightingale! Isn’t he super cute and fuzzy? Nightingales may be simple looking birds, but they are among the only birds who sing not only during the day, but during the night as well. (PS: Do you think their stepsisters sing as poorly as the ones in Cinderella?)

I’ve heard of the expression “neck to neck”, but how about “nose to nose”? This is the case here for this adorable tiny kitty and his friendly dog pal. Look how small the cat is compared to the dog! I bet these two are great friends in spite of their size difference. They probably have a lot of fun playing together.
A special thanks to Blue Bear’s excellent cousin Mike (and special ACAD researcher) for sending us some great sites with cute pictures just like this one.

You may not think that octopuses are cute, but I certainly do. They have their own unique charm and the coconut octopus is no ordinary octopus either! To see a video of the octopus in action, and to read about how special it is, you should check out the article from National Geographic, but the gist of it is that these octopuses are the first (and only) invertebrates known to use tools! Some of these octopuses were caught in the act doing the following. The octopus sits in a coconut shell which sticks to it thanks to the suction cups on its tentacles. When in danger, or when trying to deceive another animal, the octopus takes the other coconut shell and places it on top to reassemble the coconut and hide itself. Isn’t that clever and super cute at the same time?

Over the last few days, we have seen many squirrels walking along the power line in my backyard, with a green crab apple in their mouth. It has certainly been a cute sight, but the particularly special thing about it was that we keep seeing a black squirrel doing the same thing. It is very rare to encounter black squirrels in our city.
I hope to be able to shoot a photo of the black squirrel, but in the meanwhile, I surfed the net and found this absolutely adorable picture of a chubby black squirrel feasting on a peanut. If you check out the link below, you will see many other adorable photos of this cute black squirrel. He seems to be a bit of a messy eater.

Has anybody noticed that animals always look cute when they’re eating? It’s a strange phenomenon, but I think I have the explanation for it. It’s their tongues! Animal tongues are automatically cute (except maybe snakes!) and they’re usually present in photographs of animals eating. This little tortoise is well equipped with an adorable tongue to go with the rest of his cuteness. Be sure to pay attention to the leg scales, too! How goofy are those?
