Why would I be posting a picture of an animal with a father, as opposed to a mother, in honour of Mother’s Day? Mainly because I didn’t learn until just now that the three-horned chameleon only has three horns when it is a male (like the one in the picture), but also because it was too cute to resist! Still, fathers shouldn’t be forgotten on Mother’s day either, so this post will be a reminder to give your dad some hugs and kisses even though it may be your mom’s special day.
This baby Jackson’s chameleon, also known as the three-horned chameleon, was one of 22 successfully bred for the first time in the Taronga Zoo. Aren’t chameleons awesome? I love their tails. An interesting fact to note is that most chameleons lay eggs, but the Jackson’s chameleon actually gives birth to live young, according to Wikipedia’s Jackson’s Chameleon article.
Someone has quite a bit of growing up to do!
