I’m very sorry to be late for something yet again. World Penguin Day is officially April 25th, and we did not make a penguin-related post at that time. I do have a picture of penguins to share, so even though it is a bit late, here’s our post in honour of World Penguin Day, because you know how much we love penguins here at ACAD.

These gentoo penguins are from our local biodome. In early March, they were let out one evening for a few hours, in an area enclosed by blocks of ice. Everyone rushed to see these little guys. Aren’t they so nice? Take a quick note of the penguin on the left whose flippers are in a “bring it on” pose. Also, be sure to notice their goofy feet!

In case you don’t remember, fennec foxes have characteristically large ears as you can see here. According to National Geographic’s Fennec Fox article, these nocturnal foxes are native to North Africa and are actually the smallest foxes. Their large ears, meanwhile, are 15 cm (6 inches) long, and are useful for helping to dissipate heat.

I hope you enjoy this picture of these goofy newborns. They look so soft and cuddly. Wouldn’t you just love to hold one?

Tea parties have always seemed like something fun to me, but this has got to be the cutest one ever. First of all, the tea cups have little bears on them; secondly, there are hamsters in attendance! This party is so goofy. Wouldn’t you just love to take part? By the way, did you notice that one of these hammies is clearly not understanding that a tea cup is not something to put your little schnoz in?

In honour of Earth Day (which was yesterday, I know), Blue Bear and I decided to post a picture of pandas, since the panda is the WWF’s (World Wildlife Fund’s) logo. This is their site worldwildlife.org and a Canadian version of their site can be found here: WWF Canada. The WWF was founded in 1961 and has been striving for the conservation of wildlife ever since. It is active in 100 countries. You should definitely read more about them and their current projects on their site. A special thanks to them and other similar foundations that are out there to conserve the spectacular world we live in. We are so lucky to have so many cute and beautiful plants and animals around us. We need to do all we can to help them survive for our benefit, for their benefit, and for our planet.

Hey everyone.

So, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a live stream up at the moment of hawk eggs hatching. So far we’ve seen a crack in one egg and a beak popping out of another. It’s a slow process, but it’s definitely interesting and fun to watch. I wonder when they little ones will fully hatch! Check it out:

Penguin here.

I have a brief anecdote to share with you guys. Last year, in May, Blue Bear and I were in my backyard throwing a ball around. From the corner of my eye, I spotted a raccoon climbing one of the wooden poles holding up the electrical wires in the neighbouring backyard. He saw us, and we saw him. He froze in place, worried that we would hurt him. To add to his worries, the pole to which he clung for dear life was not the sturdiest. Knowing that if we stayed where we were and continued playing, he would be frightened and remain on the pole, we put our ball down and slowly went back into the house. From the window, we spotted him thankfully climbing down the wooden pole to safety. This little raccoon encounter was very goofy. We couldn’t but pity the poor raccoon who was scared of us, even though we would never hurt him.

This raccoon picture reminds me of the little critter we saw that day. He was definitely just as cute as this guy!

I can’t help but wonder how that golden retriever puppy got there, and if Mother Hen realizes what it is she’s sitting on. This is so cute. I hope her little chick on the left doesn’t feel too left out. There is just so much goofiness in this picture!

After a snowstorm that came along a few days ago, we are finally seeing some true Spring weather here now. When I stumbled upon this adorable picture, I realized that it represented just how much we all appreciate Spring, and felt that it was the perfect picture to post in honour of the warmer weather. Not only do we appreciate it, but so do all the animals. Enjoy the newly-budding flowers, goofy animals (like this squirrel) and the birds chirping: all welcome signs of this beautiful season.
