Penguin here.

Today is a very snowy day here. By the end of the day, about 20-30 cm of snow are expected to fall. It is the first major snowfall of the year and in spite of the difficulties it brings, it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the white fluffy stuff like this polar bear right here.
Speaking of polar bears, did you know that these animals don’t have white hair, but instead, hair with no pigment at all? The reason it looks white is similar to the reason snow is white: it’s the way the hair reflects the visible light. You can read about all this and more here on Polar Bears International.

Things have been so busy around here lately that I must say that I feel quite a bit like this baby panda bear who is so adorably stretching. Did you know that the giant panda produces the smallest baby proportional to its adult size than any other placental mammal? Baby pandas weigh in at about 90 to 130 grams. Full grown pandas weigh in at 100 to 115 kg. You can read this and other interesting tidbits about the panda here on Wikipedia’s Giant panda article.

Toronto Zoo’s new polar bear cub was shown to the public for the first time yesterday. He is three months old and has not been named yet.

Here is a video of him enjoying his new outdoor habitat on February 10th:

You can read more about him on CBC news’ article: here. It includes more videos!

Penguin here.

Blue Bear and I are on vacation, and we’re going to visit a zoo where we’ll be seeing pandas in person for the very first time. We’re so excited! I chose to post this picture for that reason, and also because I used to love going on the slide at the park when I was little. I hope I looked even 1/2 as cute as this adorable fuzzy panda does!

Penguin here.

In honour of Earth Day (which was yesterday, I know), Blue Bear and I decided to post a picture of pandas, since the panda is the WWF’s (World Wildlife Fund’s) logo. This is their site worldwildlife.org and a Canadian version of their site can be found here: WWF Canada. The WWF was founded in 1961 and has been striving for the conservation of wildlife ever since. It is active in 100 countries. You should definitely read more about them and their current projects on their site. A special thanks to them and other similar foundations that are out there to conserve the spectacular world we live in. We are so lucky to have so many cute and beautiful plants and animals around us. We need to do all we can to help them survive for our benefit, for their benefit, and for our planet.

This little panda cub is just about the cutest little buddy ever, don’t you think? He looks like he’s having such a fun time. It makes me think about the great times I used to have in parks during my childhood days. I absolutely love this fuzzy panda picture. What a cutie.
