Happy Independence Day from Blue Bear and I! Last year, on our Independence Day post, we posted a bald eagle family. This year, we will be posting a different typically American animal: the American bison! According to the Animal Fact Guide’s excellent American bison article, the bison can weigh between 410-818 kg and grow up to 3.8m long. The baby bison has a reddish brown coat, as you see in the image here, and develops the characteristic hump within a few months.

It’s no secret that bison are very large animals with goofy proportions between their heads and bodies, but when you see the relative size of a baby bison that’s very new and its mother, their size is really easy to distinguish. Look at this tiny little baby bison (with a very large head, like all bison, of course) taking a nap while looking as tiny as a kitten. He’s a very comfortable looking little guy! I’d cuddle up with him.

Not only am I small, I fold well, too!

I’m not sure if this picture features the baby bison’s mother or father, but regardless of who the featured parent is, they’re both adorable and friendly looking folks! I thought to make a post about a Bison because I played some Street Fighter 2 on the Genesis the other day and it made me think of Bisons because of the character “M. Bison” from the game. He’s not cute, though… he’s a bit grumpy!

Here’s the adorable picture:

Penguin here.

I must admit that I had a bit of a rough day today, but my mother definitely helped cheer me up. We watched Cinderella together (finally) for the first time in many years and we had a great time. So, I thought it would be appropriate to make a post of a mother animal with her child. The baby bison is so tiny compared to his mom! I also love his light brown coat and tiny nose! So, what do you think? Don’t these bison make an adorable and loving pair?
