As you are well aware by now, We love koala bears here on ACAD. We hope you enjoy our latest addition to our koala bear category. Can you just imagine how comfortable it must be to hug a koala? This happy koala family looks so content and unbelievably adorable!

According to the article from Zooborns, three koalas gave birth to joeys in the Summer of 2012 in the Taipei zoo, Taiwan. These pictures are from a few months after the birth (as, according to the Wikipedia’s Koala article, joeys do not fully emerge from their mother’s pouch until six to seven months of age).

ACAD Koala New Year Special: Very Lazy Looking Koala

Have you ever noticed that koalas are, more often than not, very lazy little guys? They have a tendency to be doing one of three things (some of which have some overlap, and so they may be doing many of them at the same time!)

1) Sleeping sweetly
2) Cuddling cutely
3) Lazing Lovingly

This particular guy happens to be in the process of performing action number three, and looks to be transitioning towards the first action. Let’s hope he has a good rest!

I love this little sleepy koala. Isn’t he just the cutest? He’s so soft and fuzzy that he almost looks like a plush toy!

I noticed that it is very often that you find pictures of sleeping koalas and I now know the reason why. According to Wikipedia’s Koala article, koala bears have a low metabolic rate for a mammal (just like sloths and wombats) and so they actually rest and stay motionless for 16 to 18 hours a day.

To kick off the new year koala style, the next few posts will be about one of our favorite animals: the koala bear.

When I first saw this picture, I couldn’t help but gush at how absolutely adorable this little koala buddy is. Seriously, just look at the fuzz on those ears! How badly do you want to cuddle with him? He’s irresistibly cute.

Don’t you feel like giving someone a hug every time you see a koala bear? I know I do. Whenever I see a picture of a koala, they are always hugging a tree or another koala. It’s seriously so adorable! This is why we have a rather large category devoted to them specifically: Koala Bears.

Did you know that eucalyptus can be toxic in large quantities? According to Wikipedia, an essential oil in eucalyptus is indeed toxic, but koalas, possums, and some other maruspials are tolerant of the toxins. This little koala buddy is certainly enjoying his meal!

ACAD Mother’s Day Special Post 4: Koalas With Adoptive Mother

Did you guys know that Koalas are endangered? I had an idea, but I didn’t know to what extent until I read an article in this month’s National Geographic magazine. Apparently there are very few Koalas left due to various factors including them being injured by cars in populated areas, and a loss of habitat due to humans cutting down eucalyptus trees.

All of this is very sad, but luckily there are many people in Australia that have taken action to protect the Koala population by creating rescues where they save Koalas and help nurse injured ones back to health. Here’s a photograph of a woman who is helping to save Koalas by adopting them. Wouldn’t you love to be in her place? Apparently it’s a lot of work, but it also must be an incredibly rewarding thing to do, and would be filled with adorable moments like these.

Check out this adorable koala bear joey peeking out from between his/her mother’s ears! What a cutie! In fact, I think they make an adorable pair.
Did you know that koalas sleep for up to 16 hours per day? Also, according to giftlog.com’s koala facts, when koala bear joeys are born, they are blind, hairless, less that one inch long, and weigh less than one gram! A full-grown koala weighs anywhere between 5kg and 14kg.

Isn’t this the sweetest looking hug ever? I was searching for a desktop image for my mother the other day when I stumbled upon this one. It was perfect. I think this picture sums up exactly the kind of hugs my mom gives me: sweet, nurturing, and comfy ones. I love this pic so much. Look how soft, protective and loving the mother is! I also think that the baby looks adorable and tiny.
