This sloth whose name is Sjakie is actually from the Burgers’ Zoo in the Netherlands. According to Spiegel Online, the teddy bear is being used as a surrogate to help feed the sloth, because Sjakie’s mother wasn’t producing sufficient milk. Sjakie had to be fed by syringe, but since sloths love to cuddle when they eat, the teddy was an important addition to meal time. Isn’t that the cutest thing ever?

Did you know that sloths’ hair grows in an opposite direction from most other mammals? According to Wikipedia’s sloth article, mammals’ hair usual grows toward the extremities. This is not the case for the sloth who is mostly hanging upside down from trees and requires the hair to grow in an opposite way for protection from the environment.

Hey everyone. Penguin and I went to the local biodome the other day, as Penguin said in Sunday’s post. We had lots of fun because we went at night and all the nocturnal animals were out and about. This included the sloth, which we’d never seen before because he’s a sneaky guy and doesn’t move very much except at night. Sloths are very strange looking creatures and their behaviour is even stranger! They move very little and don’t require a lot of energy to live. Here’s a picture of a silly little hairy baby sloth, who happens to be giving a very cuddly looking hug.

I’m sorry if Blue Bear and I haven’t been posting on a daily basis in the last month. We were quite busy, but things are smoothing out now and so we should be posting on a far more regular basis.
Business aside, I know that this week (or last), there was a viral video about a sloth crossing the street. This made me remember how absolutely adorable sloths are and how it was certainly time to post a picture of one on our site!
I always thought sloths were adorable with their alien-like features, pig-like snouts and their super slow movement. These two sloths in particular are posing for a sweet family picture. The baby is resting comfortably since he’s protected by his loving and caring mother. I love pictures like these!
